Checked Baggage Requirements
Free Baggage Allowance
  • Each customer may bring one bag free of charge.
  • Each bag must NOT exceed 62 inches (157.48 centimeters) in overall dimensions (length + width + height) and CANNOT exceed 50 pounds (22.73 kilos).

Please note: boxes will not be accepted as checked baggage on international flights.

Mosaic customers and those on the same itinerary, as well as customers traveling in JetBlue Mint, are allowed two (2) checked bags free of charge.

Overweight, Oversized Baggage and Excess Bags

Overweight, oversized, and excess baggage may be checked on a load-availability basis, per the guidelines detailed below. Please note, fees will be assessed for each category that applies.

  • Example #1 - if a bag is overweight and oversized, the overweight fee plus the oversized fee will apply.
  • Example #2 - if a bag is the third bag and is also overweight and oversized, the three additional fees (overweight, oversized, excess bag) will be assessed.

Charges for excess, oversize, and overweight bags will be assessed and collected at the airport upon check-in.

* Please note: Overweight baggage will not be accepted on flights to/from the Dominican Republic, Haiti or Trinidad & Tobago. Baggage over 70 pounds will not be accepted on flights to/from Lima, Peru.

Oversized Baggage

* 63 - 80 inches (203.2 centimeters) $100 per bag ($75 for customers who booked prior to May 21, 2014)
* Bags over 80 inches Will not be accepted

* Please note: Oversized baggage will not be accepted on flights to/from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Peru or Trinidad & Tobago.

Second Bag Fee

There is an additional $50 fee for checking a second bag ($40 for customers who booked prior to May 21, 2014)

3rd + Baggage

Additional bags will be accepted for a fee of $100 per bag ($75 if booked prior to May 21, 2014). This also applies to Mosaic customers and customers traveling in JetBlue Mint.

* Please note: Customers traveling to/from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Peru or Trinidad & Tobago are limited to two checked bags.


Checking baggage for someone other than yourself
As mandated by the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (P.L. 107-71), we cannot accept checked baggage on the aircraft unless the passenger who checked the baggage is aboard the aircraft.

Checking in Your Bags
  • All baggage must be checked at the airport at least 30 minutes prior to departure on domestic flights, and 60 minutes prior to departure on international flights.
    • Customers traveling domestically from Fort Lauderdale (FLL), John F. Kennedy (JFK) or Tampa (TPA) with checked baggage, must check in 40 minutes prior to scheduled departure.
  • If you are traveling to an International destination, please check in at the ticket counter.
  • Baggage will NOT be accepted for check in more than six hours prior to a flight's scheduled departure time. 
  • Please check information specific to items such as sporting equipment, firearms, musical instruments, etc. for guidelines on transporting them on JetBlue flights.

Checked Baggage Requirements for Flights to/from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Peru and Trinidad & Tobago

Customers checking baggage for travel to/from the following destinations must follow the guidelines below.

Please note that boxes WILL NOT be allowed on any international flight. Non-hazardous items may be packed in checked baggage; however, JetBlue will not be liable damage to any fragile items packed within a checked bag (i.e. televisions, electronics, etc.). Humanitarian organizations transporting supplies will be subject to the same baggage allowances and guidelines as other customers.

Dominican Republic, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago

  • Each customer may check a total of two (2) bags. First checked bag free of charge  
  • Each bag must NOT exceed 62 inches (157.48 centimeters) in overall dimensions (length + width + height) and CANNOT exceed 50 pounds (22.73 kilos). Baggage dimensions are determined by adding the length, width, and height together.
  • Additional baggage and bags that exceed the overall dimensions or weight WILL NOT be allowed onboard flights to/from the Dominican Republic*, Haiti, or Trinidad & Tobago.
    • *Additional baggage will be accepted on flights to/from La Romana, Dominican Republic

Peru (if booked on/after April 1, 2014)

  • Customers traveling to/from Lima, Peru may check one (1) bag free of charge only if 50 pounds (22.73 kilos) or less and 62 inches (157.48 centimeters) or less. 
    • A second bag may be checked for a fee 
    • Maximum number of checked bags is two (2), and maximum allowed weight is 70 pounds (31.75 kilos) each. 
  • Each bag must NOT exceed 62 inches (157.48 centimeters) in overall dimensions (length + width + height). Baggage dimensions are determined by adding the length, width, and height together.
  • Overweight/oversize fees will be applicable to baggage outside of the limitations above - see Checked Baggage Requirements 
  • Baggage allowance and weight restrictions will not apply to customers who booked prior to April 1, 2014.

 


Non-US VAT Tax on Baggage Fees

A Value Added Tax (VAT) of up to 18% is payable on baggage fees for certain international flights. Non-US VAT based on itinerary are as follows:

Barbados 17.5% of Baggage fee
Dominican Republic 18% of Baggage fee
Costa Rica 5% of Baggage fee
Trinidad 15% of Baggage fee
