General information on traveling with pets

JetBlue gladly accepts small cats and dogs in the aircraft cabin on both domestic and international flights (with the exception of flights to/from Jamaica, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Cayman Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, and interline/codeshare bookings).

You may book your pet online at or by calling 1-800-JETBLUE (538-2583).

**Attention: Pets are NOT accepted on Interline/Codeshare bookings (single itinerary containing both JetBlue and partnership airline segments), regardless of booking source; e.g.,, travel agency, partner airline’s website, etc.  

Keep in mind:

  • There is a pet fee.
    • The pet fee is $125 each way.
    • We only accept small cats and dogs as pets. All pets travel in the aircraft cabin onboard our flights. At this time, we do not ship live animals as cargo or in the bellies of any aircraft.
    • The combined weight of the pet and carrier may not exceed 20 pounds.
    • Only four (4) pets are allowed per flight. The fourth and final pet must be booked at the airport at the ticket counter within 24 hours of departure and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. 
    • Pets cannot travel alone; they must be accompanied by a customer.
    • Only one pet is allowed per customer, with a few exceptions. Please contact a JetBlue representative at 1-800-JETBLUE (538-2583) for more information.
    • A pet carrier will count as a carry-on item
    • You will not be assigned an exit row, bulkhead seat, Mint® seat or any seat restricted for under seat stowage. It is highly recommended that you sit in a window or aisle seat.
    • The pet must remain inside its closed/zipped up carrier while at the airport and in the aircraft for the entire flight, and underneath the seat in front of you during taxi, takeoff, and landing. TSA may require customers to remove their pet from its carrier to be carried through the TSA checkpoint.
    • Pets are NOT accepted on interline bookings (single itinerary containing both JetBlue and partnership airline segments), regardless of booking source i.e., travel agency, partner airline’s website, etc.

    Please note: These requirements listed above do not apply to certified service animals or emotional support animals; click here for guidelines pertaining to certified service animals and emotional support animals.

Before you go

Make sure you obtain the following items before you travel. You will be asked to present them at check in. 

  • Required pet vaccination and documentation for each destination of your trip - required only for international travel (including Puerto Rico)   
  • Identification tags and vet certificate - required only for international travel (including Puerto Rico) 
  • A carrier that does not exceed 17"L x 12.5"W x 8.5"H. Your pet must be able to stand up and move around in the carrier with ease
      • Combined weight of your pet and carrier may not exceed 20 pounds
      • Carriers must have a leak proof bottom and must be well ventilated
      • Soft-sided and hard-sided carriers are acceptable
      • Containers in such physical condition as to allow possible escape by an animal will not be accepted for transportation
      • Only one pet per carrier is allowed

At the airport

Travel Petiquette™, the social graces of pet travel, counts the most the moment you arrive at the airport and begin your journey. We ask that you become familiar with the following regulations to make sure you and your beloved companion aren’t left behind.

  • We recommend you check your pet in at the airport’s Full-Service counter.
  • Pet carriers are subject to being searched by airport security authorities.
  • When passing through security, you will be asked to hold the pet and walk through while the carrier is x-rayed.
  • Your pet and carrier will count as a carry-on item.
  • The pet must remain inside its carrier while at the airport and in the aircraft for the entire flight, and underneath the seat in front of you during taxi, takeoff and landing.
  • If your pet needs to relieve itself, there are designated areas at each airport for it to do so. Locations vary by airport; please ask an Airport Crewmember at the ticket counter or gate for assistance and/or directions.

Pet Remains
JetBlue does not accept pet remains, cremated or otherwise, in the cabin of the aircraft or as cargo.

TSA pet security screening

You will need to present the animal to the Security Officers at the checkpoint. You may walk your animal through the metal detector with you. If this is not possible, your animal will have to undergo a secondary screening, including a visual and physical inspection by our Security Officers.

Your animal will NEVER be placed through an x-ray machine; however, you may be asked to remove your animal from its carrier so that the carrier can be placed on the x-ray machine.
