JFK Terminal 5 travel tips

If you’re flying to or from our home at Terminal 5, please be aware that high traffic volumes and airport construction may impact your journey. In order to make your trip as enjoyable as possible, please make note of the following travel tips.

NO MATTER HOW YOU’RE GETTING TO THE AIRPORT…

Plan extra time!

Due to current Transportation Security Administration (TSA) capacity, you may experience longer-than-usual security lines. To ensure you make it to your flight on time, please plan to arrive to JFK at least two hours before your flight.

Also, please be mindful of JetBlue’s cutoff times for all flights departing JFK:

  • Bag Drop for all travelers with checked bags: closes 40 minutes before departure.
  • Check-in without checked bags: closes 30 minutes before departure.
  • Gate door: closes 15 minutes before departure (boarding not permitted after this time).

GETTING DROPPED OFF AT THE AIRPORT?

If you’re traveling to T5 in a vehicle between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., you may bypass the departures traffic by getting dropped off the arrivals roadway. Follow signs for “arrivals,” enter the terminal near pick-up sign #4, and proceed to the departures level.

GETTING PICKED UP AT THE AIRPORT?

Express evening pick-up

Between the hours of 5 a.m. and 12 midnight, you may avoid traffic congestion by having friends and family pick you up at Departures. Follow signs for “Check-in,” which will take you to Departures level. Then, exit the terminal at the first door adjacent to the elevators and escalators (door #7).

TAKING A TAXI, BUS OR LIVERY CAR HOME?

  • Taxis – Our taxi stand was recently relocated due to necessary airport construction. If you wish to take a taxi, follow taxi signs to the elevators near carousel #6. Then, take the elevator to the “skywalk” level. Follow signs across the skywalk to another bank of elevators; the taxi stand is on the ground level. Walking time is approximately five to ten minutes; however, there is never traffic congestion from the taxi stand and the overall experience during peak times is more efficient.

  • Ride share – Our ride share partners, such as Uber and Lyft, now have a dedicated pick-up location at #5 and #6 on the Arrivals roadway. To avoid congestion, please do not order your ride share until you arrive at the correct location. Most ride share partners are able to dispatch a driver within a few minutes.

  • NYC Airporter – The NYC Airporter, which operates express buses to Manhattan, as well as Newark and LaGuardia airports, has a new, dedicated loading area. Please follow signs for NYC Airporter just past pick-up area #1 on the Arrivals level.

Cut-off time for checking in
  • Checked baggage may be accepted within six (6) hours of scheduled departure time based on the opening of the ticket counter on the same calendar day
  • Checked baggage will not be accepted less than 60 minutes prior to departure on international flights

JetBlue is not liable for any charges incurred for baggage that was checked late, nor will we be liable for delivery or compensation for late-checked baggage.

  • If you're not checking bags, you must check in no later than 30 minutes* prior to scheduled departure for domestic flights, and 60 minutes for international flights
  • All customers must be onboard the aircraft 15 minutes prior to scheduled or posted departure time for domestic and international flights

*kiosk availability subject to airport hours of operation

Check in cut-off times vary between check-in channels as follows:

  • Kiosk/ticket counter: 30 minutes of departure (domestic), 60 minutes of departure (international)
