Travel Advisory

Due to an ongoing airport infrastructure improvement project at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) which will impact roadways near and around the airport through mid-November 2017, customers traveling to/from DTW are encouraged to allow for additional travel time to arrive at the airport as follows.

  • Arrive Early & Allow Extra Drive Time:  Customers and motorists should plan to arrive early and allow for extra time to navigate through the road construction occurring near the North end of the airport.
  • Utilize Cell Phone Waiting Lots & Short-Term Parking:  The airport encourages those picking up customers to take advantage of DTW’s complimentary cell phone waiting lots and short-term parking options to help reduce roadway congestion.  The North Cell Phone Lot is located off the East Service Drive and is best accessed from Goddard Rd. Ext. during construction.  The South Cell Phone Lot is located off Eureka Rd., west of the southern airport entrance.

As always, be sure to check both traffic and flight status prior to heading to the airport. For more information and updates, visit http://www.metroairport.com/TravelerInfo/GeneralInfo/Advisories.aspx

Check in & pick up info for unaccompanied minors

Photo identification is required for both parties who drop off and pick up an unaccompanied minor. Unaccompanied minors will not be accepted without the guardian's photo ID.

When a gate pass is issued, it is the TSA's decision as to whether a young child, in addition to the unaccompanied minor, may pass through security with the adult.

Drop off information

When dropping off the unaccompanied minor, the parent/guardian may NOT leave the airport until the following criteria are met:

  • The parent/guardian has a signed copy of the UMNR form
  • The UMNR is onboard the aircraft
  • The parent/guardian's name, address and cell phone number are all documented on the minor's reservation.

In the event of a gate return, a JetBlue crewmember will contact the parent/guardian so that he/she can immediately return to the airport to meet their minor. Please note, the parent/guardian must request a gate pass at the airport ticket counter to pick up their minor at the departure gate.

Pick up information When picking up an unaccompanied minor, one person may receive a gate pass to proceed into the arrivals area to meet the minor. Please arrive at the airport no later than 30 minutes before the scheduled arrival.

In cases where a flight arrives after the ticket counter is closed, the pick up person should proceed directly to baggage claim to meet the minor.

The child will only be released to the person indicated on the unaccompanied minor form or on the reservation and that person must present their government-issued photo ID.
